International Scientific Cooperation: Strategic Agreement Between FAPESP and Institut Pasteur de Montevideo will benefit IPSP

The partnership will promote collaborative research and expand cooperation between IPMON and IPSP.

Representatives of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and Institut Pasteur de Montevideo (IPMON) met last Friday, November 14th, in Montevideo to sign a scientific and technological cooperation agreement that will enable joint funding of research projects across all fields of knowledge. The partnership is valid for five years and may be extended if both parties agree to do so.

According to FAPESP’s Scientific Director Marcio de Castro, one of the main objectives of the agreement is to stimulate cooperation between researchers from IPMON – inaugurated in 2007 – and the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo (IPSP). Both are part of the Pasteur Network, with 32 laboratories in 25 countries.

“There is great synergy of topics, themes and established skills. And FAPESP can play a crucial role in this partnership. We anticipate launching a collaborative call between both institutes shortly, aiming at advancing broader integration across the entire Pasteur network. It would be a wonderful outcome of this partnership initiated in South America,” said the director.

“Collaborating with FAPESP, one of the most important funding agencies worldwide, has always been our strategic objective. The Institut Pasteur de São Paulo is a sister institute and I’m confident we will have strong collaboration opportunities,” said Carlos Batthyány, executive director of IPMON.

Executive Director of IPSP Paola Minoprio noted that as members of the Pasteur Network, both institutes will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of various scientists across five continents. “The renowned expertise of the University of São Paulo, along with substantial support from FAPESP, allows us to combine different specialties not only to advance science, but also to train new generations of students in scientific discovery and innovation,” she highlighted.

FAPESP’s delegation visit to the IPMON headquarters was part of the FAPESP Day Uruguay symposium. In addition to Castro, the meeting was attended by Raul Machado, institutional relations manager of the foundation; Niels Olsen Saraiva Câmara, advisor to the scientific board; and Ana Paula Yokosawa, deputy manager of research collaboration.
