The Institut Pasteur de São Paulo (IPSP) was created after a series of agreements over the 2015-2023 period.

2015
On June 8, a tripartite agreement was signed between the Institut Pasteur, the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), aiming at scientific, technical and educational collaboration. The agreement provided for the creation of a scientific technical platform as a step towards the creation of a unit of the Pasteur Institute in Brazil.

2017
An agreement was signed between the Institut Pasteur of France and USP, which enabled the creation of the Pasteur-USP Scientific Platform – the intermediate stage for the creation of the IPSP. With its own resources, USP started to reform the building for the institute’s headquarters, where the platform would be installed.

2018
The laboratories of the Pasteur-USP Scientific Platform begin to be equipped. With resources from the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) and the Institut Pasteur in France, around 6 million reais were invested in equipment.

2019
On July 4th, the Pasteur-USP Scientific Platform was inaugurated. In November, the platform became an associate member of the Pasteur Network.

2020
In March, research activities began at the Pasteur-USP Scientific Platform, with the implementation of six groups of researchers. An emergency intervention cell was created to be dedicated exclusively to research related to SARS-CoV-2, its variants, and Covid-19.

2022
On July 4th, in São Paulo, the executive vice-president of the Institut Pasteur, François Romaneix; the rector of the University of São Paulo, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Jr; and the executive secretary of International Relations of the State of São Paulo, Affonso Massot, signed an agreement reinforcing the intentions to establish a unit of the Institut Pasteur in São Paulo.

2023
