About the research:
Raphael Gaudin’s research focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying viral neuroinfection and its consequences for brain function. His work aims to understand how neurotropic viruses interfere with neuronal processes, potentially leading to subtle cognitive alterations in addition to classical conditions such as encephalitis.
As a member of the Membrane Dynamics of Viruses (MDV) team at IRIM, he studies how viral infections affect synaptic plasticity and neuronal circuits, exploring the interactions between viruses and cells of the central nervous system.
Through a multidisciplinary approach combining human 3D brain models, live imaging, proteomics, and machine learning tools, the group seeks to understand, at the molecular level, virus-induced changes in the brain.
These studies provide new insights into virus-induced brain dysfunction and support the development of symptom-oriented antiviral strategies.
