About his research:
Lecuit’s research focuses on the study of systemic infections, which result from the invasion of the host by microbial pathogens. One of the central aspects of his work is to understand how these microorganisms are able to cross barriers of the human body, disseminate, and reach protected tissues.
As head of the Biology of Infection unit, based at the Institut Pasteur and affiliated with Inserm and Université Paris Cité, he investigates host–microbe interactions that enable the crossing of mucosal barriers, the blood–brain barrier, and the placental barrier, as well as systemic and tissue dissemination.
The group also studies the consequences of these interactions in the development and resolution of infectious processes, as well as intraspecies heterogeneity in both microbial virulence and host susceptibility to infection.
Through this multidisciplinary approach — integrating cell biology, structural imaging, and genetics — the team seeks to connect molecular dynamics to physiological outcomes in health and disease.
